Be Yourself - Mixed Media Tutorial

Taas tuli tehtyä yksi 30 x 30 cm mixed media -työ, jossa hyödynsin mm. Fiskarsin upeaa kennolävistäjää. Suomenkielisiä ohjeita löytyy Fiskarettesista TÄÄLTÄ!

I made another 30 x 30 cm (12 x 12 inches)  mixed media canvas piece and this time I made it for my son. He has an Asperger syndrome and gets bullied at school sometimes because he's different. I wanted to remind him with this piece that it's important to be yourself even if it means you're a bit different.  I hope this will help him with the social issues he's having and he gets strength to be himself  as he truly is a special boy <3 p="">

First I punched out some hexagon with the XL sized Fiskars Squeeze Punch from Post-it notes and arranged them at the center of the canvas to create a "mask".

Then I punched out some hexagon from Prima Marketing papers and glued them with gel medium. I trimmed the excess paper of with Fiskars scissors and used the scissors to distress the edges. Then I removed the post-it pieces and left the piece to dry overnight.

Next Day I sprayed some Distress Stain sprays over the piece. I used Vintage Photo, Antique Linen, Walnut Stain and Rusted Hinge.

After sprays were dry I took Black Soot - Distress Marker and draw lines on the edges of the hexagons. I blurred the lines with my finger.  I also added some Distress Ink: Black Soot on the edges.

I used the same shades of Distress Stain Sprays as earlier on canvas and sprayed them on aquarelle paper. Then I stamped the text with letter stamps on there and cut the letter out individually.  I inked the edges with Distress Ink: Black Soot and glued them down with gel medium. 

Finally I used Fiskars Fuse and some Sizzix Bigz -dies to create black chipboard embellishments on the edges of the canvas piece.  I also added some golden gilding wax on the edges of the chipboard pieces to give more metallic feel. Then I added some gilding wax on the top the canvas too and signed the piece.

Art Journal - haaste #4 : Rays of Sunshine

Mixed Media- haasteeni on edennyt jo neljänteen sivuunsa saakka. Tässä välissä tein 2 sivua, jotka jäävät valitettavasti täällä blogissa julkaisematta. Toinen niistä oli aiheeltaan poliittisesti liian polttava enkä tahdo sotkea politiikkaa ja blogiani keskenään - ja toinen oli niin henkilökohtainen etten ainakaan vielä ole sitä valmis jakamaan julkisesti :( Mutta neljännellä sivulla aihe on taas hieman kepeämpi tunnelmaltaan vaikka tässäkin toki sydäntäni puran ;) Eli näin synkän kaamoksen keskellä aloin miettiä, mitkä asiat tuovat sitä positiivisuuden valoa ja iloa elämääni vaikka muuten tuntuisikin pimeältä ja ahdistavalta. Tarkemmin sivun tekemisestä on juttua  Fiskarettesissa!

My Art Journal challenge is showing progress and this is page 4. Unfortunately pages 2 and 3 won't be published at the blog... at least not at this moment :( The second page was very political and I don't want to mixed political issues with my creative blog and the third page was too personal for me to share it. But this fourth page is again something I want to share with you. We still have the polar night effect here in Northern Finland and there isn't much daylight at this time of the year.  So I started to think what things in my life bring me joy, lightness and happiness even during the dark periods of life - the little rays of pure sunshine  - like I call them ;)

I used lots of different techniques and medias with this page. First a layer of patterned paper and light layer of gesso on top of that. Then I added some Gelatos to give some color on the background. I used a Tim Holtz stencil to make the rays and baubles with texture paste.  For the red baubles I mixed
some inks to the paste to color it. The rays I colored with Distress Stain sprays and also added some golden UTEE here and then. As a final touch I wrote the journaling between the rays and added some Fiskars heart-shaped punch-outs to embellish the page.

Now it's already the first week of February and time to make a new page again - love this project! It's my best New Year's resolution ever  - mainly because it's the funniest and cheapest therapy I know *LOL*

Art Journal - haaste #1 : The Ocean Soul

Yksi uudenvuodenlupauksistani tänä vuonna oli viimein aloitella Art Journal -kirjan tekeminen aktiisesti. Aiemmin olen saanut aikaiseksi vain muutamia yksittäisiä sivuja eikä vuoden aikana ole paljon edistystä tapahtunut. Nyt päätin ottaa tavoitteeksi tehdä joka viikko vuoden aikana yksi sivu Art Journal 2015 - kirjaani ja vuoden lopussa pitäisi sitten olla 52 sivua tehtynä.

Projekti meinasi tyssätä heti alkuunsa kun vuosi alkoi rankan flunssan kourissa kuumeisena sängyn pohjalla - flunssa kuitenkin tuli selätettyä juuri ennen viikonloppua ja lauantaina pääsin projektini viimein aloittamaan.  Tässä siis kirjan ensimmäinen sivu, joka selkeästi kertoo kuinka jo kaipaan kesää tämän kaamoksen keskellä kun ajatukset vie merellisiin tunnelmiin välimerelle ;) Lisää tarinaa sivun syntymisestä löytyy Fiskarettesien blogista TÄÄLTÄ!

One of my resolutions for the New Year 2015 was that I will start an art journal project for this year and will try to make a page each week during this year. Unfortunately I started the year in bad flu and fever.  I was finally feeling better during weekend and got my journal started on Saturday with this page. It seems that I really miss the summer already and the Mediterranean Sea... I wish the summer would come fast and I could get some sand between my toes soon again :)

P*skarteluhaaste #187 - Kuvahaaste

P*skarteluhaaste #179 - Maali ja ressaus

Tällä kertaa aiheena P*skiksessa on maali ja ressaus. Minä tein kannen albumiin, jonka tulen tekemään miehestäni ja hänen työstään ja vapaa-ajan konehommista myös eli kelkkailuista jne.. Monenlaisia efektimaaleja on käytetty, mutta paperin ressaamisen sijaan ressasin Timpan vasaralla nuijien tuon chipboard pinnan jälkiä täyteen.... ihana kuluneen metallin oloinen pinta syntyi lopputuloksena:

This week's challenge at P*skarteluhaaste is to use paints and distressing. I made a cover for a minialbum that is going to be dedicated to my husband and his work and "toys" such as snowmobiles etc. I used different kind of metal effect paints.  Instead of the usual paper distressing I distressed the chipboard cover with Tim Holtz hammer tool using different hammer tips - love the worn metal effect of the chipboard now:

Tämän päivän luukussa on leikitty fragments-paloilla, lumitehosteaineella, crackle accents -lakalla ja kullanvärisillä rub-oneilla - tosi hauska oli värkkäillä ja näyttää jäätyneiltä lasiruuduilta nuo fragments palat kaikkine halkeamineen ja ympäröidyn lumen keskellä :) Enää yksi yö jouluun ;)

Making today's tag I played with fragments, snow paste, crackle accents and golden rub-ons. Fragments look like frozen windows surrounded by all that snow ;)

Tästä tagista tuli aika rock ;) Pohja tehty kohokuvioimalla ensin punaista foliota ja sen jälkeen taputtelin stazonin mustaa mustetta suoraan tyynystä koholla oleviin kohtiin - näyttää ihanasti grungehtavalta, mutta samalla kiiltävä folio saa hieman rock-henkeä mukaan - tykkään ihan kympillä lookista itse  :D

Today's tag is rocking one!!! I embossed the red foil first and then dabbed it with Stazon black ink straight from the pillow. I love the grunge rock look of this tag ;)

Tämän päivän tagi on sarjassamme "kahvipussin uusi elämä".  Folion tilalta käytinkin 2-puoleista tarrakalvoa ja kahvipussin sisäosaa. Ja näköjään hyvin toimii kahvipussitkin alkoholimusteiden ja kohokuvioinnin kanssa. Presidentti-kahvissa on helppo irroittaa vihreä muoviosa ja heti on käyttövalmista "foliota" sitten isompi pala kerralla ;)

Today's tag I recycled a coffee bag  - I took the top layer of from Presidentti coffee packaging and  place it on a double-sided tape sheet. Then embossed and alcohol inked it  - looks quite nice and I know that I will hold on to my coffee bags in the future :)

Tällä kertaa suosikkini valkoinen ja musta saivatkin kaverikseen murretun vaaleanpunaisen - mutta tykkään kyllä tästäkin väriyhdistelmästä paljon!! Ihanaa... enää 4 yötä jouluun ;)

Today's tag has also black and white but this time I used dusky pink instead of red - but I still like the colors very much!! And I'm so excited... only 4 nights to Christmas ;)

Onko teillä suosikkiväriyhdistelmiä, joita käytätte tiettynä aikana tosi paljon? Mulla on selkeästi taipumista tämänsuuntaiseen käytökseen - viime joulun suosikkiyhdistelmä oli sini-valkoinen ja tänä jouluna tämä dramaattinen puna-valko-musta on kyllä jo monessa tagissa ja kortissa pyörinyt  - mitäköhän ensi jouluna??? :)

Do you have favorite color combos that make you inspired for the season and do they change every year? I seemed to have a crush on white and blue last Christmas and this year I can't get enough from white, red and black ... can't wait to see which colors are inspiring me next year??? ;)

Foliotekniikat ovat lemppareita Timpan tekniikoista ja tässä yksi - eli folio on kohokuvioitu, sitten taputeltu alkoholimusteita pintaan ja lopuksi hiottu vesihiomapaperilla kohotettuja hiutaleita taas kirkkaiksi - tykkään ihan hirmusesti... harmi ettei kuvatessa pääse oikeuksiin nämä hohtavat ja kiiltävät pinnat :(

I love Tim Holtz techniques with the foil and here's one of mine. First I embossed the foil, then dabbered some alcohol inks on it and then sanded the snowflakes with a really fine sandpaper to make them silvery and shiny again :)

Tässä tagissa käytetty puustanssi on yksi suosikki Timppa-stanssini - sitä olen käyttänyt myös myöhemmin tämän vuoden kalenterissa hieman eri tekniikoin ja värimaailmassa kuin tässä ruskeassa versiossa. Tässä halusin nimenomaan kokeilla Snow cap -paint dabberin ja sticklesin seosta ja kyllä se vaan näyttää kivalta lumelta vaikka kuvasta se ei ehkä täysin välitykkään koko komeudessaan:

Today's tag I used one of my favorite TH dies - the pine tree is also used later this year's countdown with a different colors and techniques though - in this tag I wanted to try Snow cap paint dabber and stickles glue combination as a snow efect and it really looks quite nice... although it's not quite so beautiful in the picture as it's in nature:
